How do I unlock the next map?
Defeat the boss named on the locked zone's picker entry with the class you want to progress. The checked lock message identifies the required boss, previous zone and class. The success message opens the destination to heroes of that class.
- Select the hero you intend to use, then open the zone picker.
- Select the locked destination and read its boss-and-zone requirement.
- Complete that requirement using the selected class.
- Return to the picker and check the newly available destination before changing class.
A Hunter's opened maps do not establish a Priest's access. Conversely, the client describes these unlocks by class, rather than limiting them to the single named hero who earned them. A familiar map appearing locked after a class change can therefore be a progression difference, not a lost save.
The zone directory lists locations and settings. Its display order is not a verified table of unlock requirements; use the actual lock message for your next step.
Which maps are in this snapshot?
The checked 0.125.0 client names 12 locations:
| Location | Location |
|---|---|
| Elwynn Forest | Duskwood |
| Warsong Gulch | Un'Goro Crater |
| Arathi Basin | Feralas |
| Gurubashi Arena | Scarlet Monastery |
| Alterac Valley | Blackrock Mountain |
| Gates of Ahn'Qiraj | Naxxramas |
This is a catalogue, not an announcement of which map was added last. If an older guide lists only nine, compare its version with the one shown by your original game client. An announced map, a map included in your installed version, and a map unlocked for your class are three different things.
Normal, Heroic and gear stars are separate
More columns → Swipe, or focus the table and use the arrow keys.
| Progress check | What opens it | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Access to a new zone | The boss-and-zone requirement shown on the picker. | The class completing that requirement. |
| Initial Heroic access in a zone | Beat that zone on Normal with the class you want to use. | That class's access to Heroic there. |
| The next Heroic level in that zone | Beat the preceding Heroic level there with any class. | The next difficulty level opens across classes in your progress. |
| Gear-star ceiling from that zone | Beat Heroic N there with the class whose gear you are progressing. | That class's gear from that zone may reach N stars. |
For example, a Warrior clear of Heroic I opens the next level for your other classes, but a Priest still needs its own Normal clear for initial Heroic access. That Warrior clear does not give Priest equipment a one-star ceiling. Check the Priest's Armory requirements separately.
Opening a star ceiling also does not perform the upgrade. The Armory shows the piece, its allowed stars and its marks cost. Use the items and equipment guide to distinguish permanent class gear from jewelry offered during a run.
What changes on Heroic?
The difficulty description promises more marks, boss loot and talent experience alongside harder enemies. The picker displays enemy-health, enemy-damage and reward multipliers for the selected level. Read those values instead of assuming every Heroic level has the same reward increase.
Modifiers can also change which problem your build needs to solve. The checked descriptions include:
| Modifier | What to respond to |
|---|---|
| Bolstering | Deaths strengthen nearby enemies and the effect stacks. Watch the remaining pack as enemies fall. |
| Sanguine | A defeated elite leaves a pool that heals enemies standing in it. Move the fight away from that pool when you can. |
| Explosive | Orbs take damage only from direct hits. A DoT-focused setup needs a way to deal with them before they burst. |
| Withering | Regeneration, heals and leech are halved, with slower and weaker revives. Reassess a plan that depends on recovery. |
| Council | Two affixes and an earlier boss accompany the final encounter. Expect more than the final boss alone. |
Check the selected difficulty and displayed affixes each time. This reference does not assign these modifiers to unverified Heroic tiers or supply an unverified boss schedule.
What is shared in co-op?
A lobby does not bypass a player's own class requirements. Every participant needs the selected zone and difficulty open with their chosen class. The client explicitly warns that heroes shown in red stay behind when the host enters.
The host chooses the destination; guests use the hero selected on their own picker. Before starting, have each player check that exact class, map and difficulty. If someone is ineligible, select an accessible destination or let them change hero, then recheck the lobby.
The rule that a Heroic clear opens a difficulty across classes describes progression within the save. It is not a promise that the host transfers every unlock or gear-star ceiling to friends. After a successful party run, check the unlock and Armory messages on each participant's game. See co-op setup for lobby codes, passwords and connection errors.
Which zone should I choose next?
| Your immediate goal | A practical next choice |
|---|---|
| Open another map | Follow the locked destination's requirement with the class you want to keep playing. |
| Open Heroic for a second class | Clear that zone on Normal with the second class, even if another class has already opened higher Heroic levels. |
| Raise a particular gear set's star ceiling | Inspect the set's required zones and Heroic level, then bring the class that owns the gear. |
| Get a party into the same run | Choose a map and difficulty every selected class can enter. |
| Compare a new talent or item | Repeat a familiar zone at the same difficulty with otherwise unchanged gear. |
Harder zones give more talent experience according to the client, but that alone does not establish the fastest farm. A failed run still earns talent experience from time survived, kills and bosses. Compare experience earned and time spent over repeat attempts before choosing a farming route; a higher advertised reward is not automatically a better result for your setup.
